Fungal Nail Removal

What is Onychomycosis?

Onychomycosis is a prevalent nail disease that encompasses all fungal infections of the nail, caused by dermatophytes, non-dermatophytes, and yeasts. It affects over 50% of all nail abnormalities and has an estimated global prevalence of 10%. While it can affect both toenails and fingernails, toenail infections are particularly common. Symptoms include nail discoloration, thickening, and lifting of the nail plate from the nail bed. If left untreated, the infection can lead to brittle, painful, and unsightly nails.

How does the ND:YAG laser nail fungal treatment work?

The power from the Nd:YAG laser light will heat evenly throughout the depth of the effected nail and skin tissue, effectively weakening and killing parasitic fungi which have infected the patient’s nails.

What is the recovery time?

A person does not typically need any recovery time and can return to their usual activities immediately following each session.

How many treatments will be needed?

For optimal results, we advise our clients to undergo a minimum of two sessions, with a one-month interval between each session. Please note that it may take up to two months to observe visible improvements. During these sessions, we will provide comprehensive treatment to all toenails to ensure the best possible outcome.

Risks

Some clients experience mild discomfort or a feeling of heat during laser therapy, it's important to note that this is a common occurrence. However, one of the key advantages of laser therapy is that it carries a lower risk of adverse reactions compared to oral medications, which can potentially cause liver damage, kidney damage, or gastrointestinal issues.

Do I need a test patch?

All clients that are interested in having this treatment will need to attend a consultation and must have a test patch, to make sure they are suitable for treatment. Two weeks after having a  test patch carried out, the client may book in for a full treatment.
